Permission

I wrote an email to the record label (Polydor, owned by Universal Music Group) of the artist whose song I chose to feature in my music video to ask for copyright permission to be able to use the song I wanted.

Copyright law is important to the music industry because it prevents people from stealing someone elses work and passing it off as their own which would result in loss of profit for the artist and record label.
