Video Analysis

Ellie Goulding - Lights

Lights is asong that is in the electropop/pop genre. The music video for Lights is entirely performance based and relating the the lyrics and title of the song, involves a lot of different types of light and computerised imagery including flashing, white, coloured lights.

A lot of the video features Ellie instruments suchas the tamborine and the drums, which matches the beat of the song, whilst she is always surrounded bybright lights.

The featured artist wears a total of three different outfits throughout the video, all of which are girly and relating to current fashions. Her hair and make up is simplistic yet sexy.
The camera is stationery for the most of the shots, and there doesn't appear to be many hand held shots. There are a lot of long shots, which show Ellie playing the instruments. The camera occasionally cuts to close ups and mid shots of her face whilst she is singing. Zooms in and out are used and also the camera often circles around her.

The video for Lights represents the electropop genre with the dancing, lights and fashion that would attract an audience ofa younger age as it is a modern, energetic video to match the upbeat tempo of the song.

Ellie Goulding - Your Song

The music video for Your Song takes a different approach to that taken in Lights. This song is a cover of the original song by Elton John. The video contains both performance and a narrative story alongside it. The narrative is merely clips of the artist on a 'day out' in Hereford - which is where the artist is originally from. Shots are taken in nature scenery such as in a forrest and a stream and also scenes of her at home. Occasionally, it cuts to close ups of the artist's face and her singing.

Throughout the video, the costumes the artist is wearing are just 'normal' every day clothes including a coat, scarf and wooly hat for the outside shots. This would appeal to the target audience because it appears similar to something they would wear.
